The Vermont House voted 114-30 in favor of a bill that could make Vermont the first state to require labeling of foods that contain GMOs.

The state Senate has also approved the bill and Governor Peter Shumlin indicated he would sign the legislation into law.

Requirements of the bill would take effect in July 2016.
